Canang Making Demontration

Canang is the name of the rectangular shaped offerings filled with flowers that Balinese use to appease the Gods. Preparation of these offerings is a daily activity for local women and is seen as the ultimate act of devotion. Just like a book, lontar palm-leaf strips are bound between two narrow pieces of wood as a cover. Bali’s very first lontar scripts date back to the 13th century and often recorded traditional healing wisdoms. This demonstration teaches you how to write on lontar strips.
